In a show of support for the servicemen and women stationed at Camp Pendleton, an official military “Welcome Home” area with a plaque embedded in a large rock in tribute to the brave men and women who serve this country was installed on East Mission Road, just west of I-15 on May 26, 2012.

The installation includes a pole displaying a large flag, plantings of native live oak trees and other vegetation, and the "Welcome Home" fence on which family and friends may display their signs welcoming home their loved ones.  The  project was a collaboration between Fallbrook Beautification Alliance, Save Our Forest and the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce. In addition, there were local businesses who donated time and materials to the tribute. These included Steve Jacobs of Nature Designs, Southwest Boulder and Stone, and the Fallbrook Public Utility District. FBA Board member, Jedda Lorek, was responsible for this concept and carried it through to completion. Jackie and Russ Heyneman and many “Save Our Forest" volunteers planted the area and continue to maintain it through community donations. The Chamber of Commerce provided the flagpole.

The memorial has evolved over a period of several years, since the time when military families would tie handwritten banners to the chain-link fence that previously enclosed the site.
